MANIFESTO
PACKBAGS began with a simple idea: design objects that can evolve over time.
OBJECTS SHOULD EVOLVE
Most textile objects are designed as finished products.
They leave the factory complete, fixed into a single form.
From that moment on, the object can only age.
When something breaks, it is discarded.
When our needs change, it is discarded.
When it no longer feels right, it is discarded.
The life of the object ends long before its materials do.
We believe objects should work differently.
Objects should be able to evolve.
DESIGN AS A SYSTEM
Instead of designing endless new products, we design a system.
A system that is built from parts that can be assembled and re-assembled.
Parts that can be replaced.
Parts that can be repaired.
Parts that can take on a new role over time.
This allows objects to continue long after they are first made.
A new component.
A repaired element.
A different configuration.
The object continues.
TOOLS FOR CREATIVE PRACTICE
We think of objects as tools for creative practice.
Objects that move with people through changing routines: from studios to streets, from bicycles to trains, from work to everyday life.
Designers, photographers, makers, commuters, travellers.
People whose days rarely look the same twice.
The objects they carry should be able to adapt alongside them.
Not fixed products, but evolving ones.
MADE CLOSE TO HOME
All PACKBAGS products are designed and made in our studio in Amsterdam.
Working close to production allows us to work in small batches and stay close to demand. It also gives us the freedom to experiment, repair products and develop new modules as the system grows.
Whenever possible, we source materials from suppliers close to home.
Whenever possible, we use recycled materials.
DESIGN THAT CONTINUES
We believe design is not only about creating new things.
It is also about allowing existing things to continue.
To repair.
To adapt.
To evolve.
Objects should not become obsolete when something changes.
They should grow with the people who use them.
Bags that evolve with you.
