Free repairs

We offer free repairs on all PACKBAGS products. If something breaks or wears out, bring it to our Amsterdam atelier or send it in, we'll fix it and send it back. Shipping costs are for the owner's account, unless the repair is the result of a manufacturing defect on our side.

And because PACKBAGS is modular, most repairs aren't really repairs at all. A worn strap is a strap swap, a damaged pouch is a pouch swap. The system is designed so that the parts most likely to wear out are the easiest to replace.

Made in Amsterdam

Everything is designed and produced in our Amsterdam atelier. Keeping production close means shorter supply chains, no overproduction, better quality control, and the ability to repair and remake when needed.

Materials

80% of the materials we use are made with recycled content. 90% are sourced within Europe: we work closely together with manufacturers in the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, the UK and Spain.

Most of our materials are synthetic: recycled nylon and polyester. We know synthetics are under scrutiny, particularly around microplastic shedding. We think it's important to be honest about this rather than pretend it's not a consideration. Recycled synthetics have a significantly lower carbon and water footprint than virgin materials, and a bag designed to last and to be repaired rather than replaced sheds a fraction of the microplastics of a bag that gets thrown away after a season. We continue to research alternative materials and aim to reach 99% recycled content within the next five years.

We use C0 DWR water-resistant finishes : fluorocarbon-free, no PFAS.

We don't claim our products are fully sustainable. We're honest about what we can verify and what we're still working on.

You can find detailed material information for each style on its product page.

Modular design is circular design.

Most sustainability efforts in fashion focus on what a product is made of. We think it’s more important to think about how long a product lasts and what happens afterwards.

Every PACKBAGS bag is built from interchangeable moudles: baskets, straps, pouches, buckles. They are simple to assemble and disassemble without tools, without glue, without permanently fixing anything together. When a strap wears out, you replace the strap. When we develop a new module, you add it to the bag you already own. The bag doesn't become obsolete, it evolves.

This is what designers call "design for disassembly", a principle at the heart of the circular economy. Products that can be taken apart, repaired and upgraded don't need to be replaced. They stay in use. We've been building this way since 2012. Not because it was a trend, but because it made sense to us.
